Overview

Six STEPS is a 6-week family and friends support program for people affected by someone else’s alcohol and/or other drug use.

The program aims to help participants develop more effective coping strategies and find a greater sense of fulfilment. Participants are expected to attend each week and the same people who start the program finish the program together.

Six STEPS is 6 sessions focused on Support, Tools, Empathy, Practical tips and Self-care.

Some of the topics discussed are:
  • Understanding the Stages of Change
  • Boundary Setting
  • Communication
  • Risk Safety Planning
  • Self-Care and Understanding Behaviour

It is important to note that Six STEPS focuses on you and your life, not the person you support. It invites you to concentrate on changing your own thinking and responses, so you can gain greater control over your own life.

The program is facilitated by parents and/or family members who have their own experience of being affected by someone else's substance use and is not a substitute for professional support.

If you have any specific access needs due to disability, language or other requirement, please contact the PFDS team at aodmhsupport@mhc.wa.gov.au before registering.

We are committed to supporting people from diverse backgrounds or with a disability to have the same opportunity to participate.
